Hospital management and medical management games are always very popular in the App store, and you pretty much know what to expect with most of them –ensuring that patients get cared for in time, buying new machines and equipment, tending to machines, taking X-rays, all the usual stuff – but Zed Worldwide’s Hollywood Hospital caught my attention because it looks a little wackier and a little weirder than those regular run-of-the-mill hospital games. The clue is in the name – this hospital is set in Hollywood Hospital, right in the middle of Tinseltown, so the patients’ problems are a little more exotic than those in a normal hospital, and the gameplay takes on a wider dimension, being not just a frantic time-management game but also a tongue-in-cheek look at the world of celebrity.
Turns out that a virus has broken out in Hollywood, transforming the residents into larger-than-life movie characters, with Rambones and LockJaws roaming Sunset Boulevard. The stricken residents turn to Dr Mathers Storm, award-winning Surgeon at Hollywood Hospital, and his crack team of super-smart medical experts to diagnose, scan, treat, prod, poke and cure the patients. Your primary aim is to get them comfortable, diagnosed, treated and discharged fast enough to make it onto the red carpet.
Do the job right, and you’ll be able to expand your hospital, with up to 6 extensions available.
Hollywood Hospital has 35 levels to play in total, and features Openfeint achievement sharing and leaderboards. You can download it for your iPhone or iPod touch from the Apple iTunes App Store for $1.99.
