The iPhone 4
The fourth generation iPhone features a stainless steel surround (with machined steel buttons) and a smooth glass casing. At just over 9mm thick it is almost 25 percent thinner than the iPhone 3GS model.
iPhone 4 hardware
Major hardware improvements have been made to the iPhone 4. The most striking is the new 3.5-inch 960 x 640 pixel
Retina display screen, said by Steve Jobs to have a visable resolution greather than that of the human eye.
A front-facing camera in conjunction with the integrated speaker and microphone allows video calling via Apple's new
FaceTime software app.
The camera is now 5 mega-pixels and comes with auto focus, an LED flash and HD video shooting at 720p
resolution.
Processing power is provided by the Apple designed and engineered A4 CPU as used in the iPad. This more
efficient processor enable a welcome boost in performance coupled with improved battery life.
Connectivity
The Free iPhone 4
offers integrated Wi-Fi
using thw 802.11n wireless-N standard, quad-band HSDPA/HSUPA, Bluetooth and GPS. An accelerometer, gyroscope,
compass, proximity sensor and ambient light sensor are also packed into the slender casing. Forthcoming iPhone apps
will be able to take advantage of all of these advanced features.
iOS 4
iOS4 comes as standard on the iPhone 4 and finally introduces multitasking support. It will also be supporting
multiple email services and improved support for Microsoft Exchange.
Improved battery performance
The new A4 processor and improvements to the battery technology provide the new Apple iPhone with up to 7 hours
talk time, 6 hours 3G Web browsing, around 10 hours Wi-Fi browsing, over 10 hours of video playback, as much as 40
hours music playback and 300 hours of standby time.
iPhone 4 availability
The free black iPhone 4 is now available worldwide.
There are two versions of the handset available, a free iPhone 16GB or a free iPhone 32GB. The
memory capacity is the only technical difference between each of the models.
